Redefine homepage for David Jonathon Ross

Showcase and discovery catalogue for the DJR font library

2021 -  |  Web Development  |  Tailwind CSS  |  Craft CMS  |  Figma

The fonts are already great, lets show it

The site is a route for designers into David’s fonts. The homepage design wanted to benefit from an iteration to better balance and showcase his fonts in different ways and not lose sight of ease of use of buying fonts on the site and highlight benefits of the Font of the Month Club.

The direction was to be friendly, classy, and quality-driven, and sit somewhere amongst a mix of specimen catalogue, real-world examples, and examples of type with a common thread / branded examples.

Fonts needed to be flagged as easily available to try and buy with an account, and be an appealing alternative to using services from Google / Adobe / Fontstand, etc., from a small independent foundry - emphasis on the accessible, independent, and quality of the fonts.

How we got a great outcome

  • I created a workflow system here that gave a solid, predictable, and simple setup, so new content was easy to create but did not stunt creativity or exploration
  • The horizontal scroll images can be created to predefined sizes and will react responsively for a great impact across screen sizes
  • New homepage configured for easy setup and adjustment in Craft CMS
  • Allowed for a level of granular refinement, changing the section colours and icons to suit the font section being highlighted
  • Focussed on the job in hand and not distracted by any gimmicks that would have been easy to fall for
